Apple has started some temporary construction works at the Lane Technical College Prep High School ahead of its education focused event on Tuesday, March 27. Apple appears to be setting up some kind of stage/demo area outside the main school buildings. More photos after the break … In the past, Apple has constructed these buildings to serve as the demo area for press for when the main keynote concludes, with these specially built structures, often mimicking a pop-up Apple Store, to demo the just-announced new software and hardware announcements....

Pokémon Go is approaching its first anniversary later this summer and Niantic is kicking off a new in-game event to keep the momentum going. Pokémon Go will soon launch Adventure Week which includes perks at PokéStops, discounts in the shop, and bonus candy when walking buddy Pokémon. Adventure Week will also include more rock-type Pokémon and other bonuses… Adventure Week kicks off in two days on May 18 at 1pm PT and runs through the same time on May 25 next Thursday....

Pine’s interesting diplomacy system can’t save it from its dull combat, repetitive quests, and severe technical problems. On paper, Pine looks like an interesting twist on a successful formula. The action-adventure game puts players in a world where humans are far from the dominant species, but instead of trying to conquer an untamed land, they need to forge alliances with their neighbors to survive. While its diplomacy system does stand out, it’s not enough to make up for the frustrating combat and crafting, and it’s completely overshadowed by the Switch version’s disastrous performance problems....

As if the world of Pokémon wasn’t mysterious enough in the original Red, Blue, and Yellow releases (and Green, if you’re from Japan), the developers decided to sneak in one more Pokémon at the last minute, and one that was so absolutely secret that not even Nintendo was aware of it. That Pokémon was, of course, Mew, and although it was mentioned within in-game texts in regards to Mewtwo and its origin, Mew itself was about as untouchable a secret as a secret could be back then....

According to Sudo Security Group’s GuardianApp, an effort led by security researcher Will Strafach, several popular iOS apps “have been used to covertly collect precise location histories from tens of millions of mobile devices, using packaged code provided by data monetization firms.” The security report claims that in some instances these apps have been used to send constantly updated GPS coordinates to companies that make money from acquiring and selling customer data....

Twitter’s live video streaming app Periscope is out with a big update today adding a key promised feature. Periscope for iPhone version 1.1 now lets you find live streams around the world based on location using a new map view from the global tab. This lets you jump into streams going on around you or watch something interesting happening on the other side of the world. In addition to adding the new maps view, Periscope has been localized in 29 more languages: English, Japanese, Spanish, French, Italian, German, Korean, Russian, Turkish, Portuguese, Dutch, Indonesian, Simplified Chinese, Danish, Finnish, Polish, Norwegian, Swedish, Thai, Arabic, Czech, Hebrew, Hindi, Hungarian, Malay, Romanian, Traditional Chinese, Ukrainian, Vietnamese....

Plex Pass users will be getting an additional benefit from their subscription today as the company announces the addition of Live TV. Currently in beta, the service allows users of indoor and outdoor antennas to watch their favorite shows live through Plex. Combined with Plex’s DVR feature, Live TV becomes another veritable option for cord-cutters. When Plex released the DVR feature to the public, one of the missing elements was the ability to live stream over-the-air content....

The Chinese smartphone maker Xiaomi scrapped global MIUI beta testing program. This brought new updates to a block of users before rolling out on a large scale. This was later replaced by Mi Pilot MIUI Testers program for Global Stable ROM. Here, Xiaomi recruits or shortlists that can take part in this beta program. To put things into context, Xiaomi recruits selected smartphones fulfilling its various parameters who can be a part of its Mi Pilot MIUI testing program....

Pokémon Home is offering users more than the opportunity to transfer Pokémon from previous generations into the new app by giving players the chance to obtain a few Pokémon just by completing a few simple tasks. Previously, Pokémon Bank, the storage and management tool used for Pokémon titles on Nintendo 3DS, offered timed distributions as incentives for players who signed up for the paid service. The Pokémon Home service has also introduced new characters, the ability to collect and trade Pokémon through a smart device, and has added the ability to make use of 35 previously unobtainable Pokémon in Pokémon Sword and Shield – though some users are already reporting serious technical issues with the application which could dampen fan’s reception of the additional paid service....

Earlier this week, a report suggested that Apple is in the process of buying rights to older Hollywood TV shows and movies as an effort to expand the Apple TV+ service. This comes as production on Apple TV+ shows is delayed significantly because of COVID-19. The Bloomberg report explained that Apple still plans to primarily focus on original programming for Apple TV+, but that the company has “bought some shows and movies” after hearing pitches from Hollywood studios....

After scanning through the binary codes of applications in the iOS App Store, Will Strafach’s verify.ly service has detected that 76 popular apps in the store are currently vulnerable to data interception. The interception is possible regardless if App Store developers are using App Transport Security or not. A few months ago, similar vulnerabilities were discovered with Experian and myFICO Mobile’s iOS apps. Strafach’s verify.ly service is dedicated to scanning apps in the iOS App Store searching for vulnerabilities to help developers understand how to harden and secure their code....
