Apple’s latest retail store opened today. No, it’s not in the heart of a historic Italian plaza or nestled among a bamboo forest in Macau. It’s in Dallas, Texas, just steps from Interstate 635 and a 15 minute drive from downtown when traffic is clear. But with a history unlike any of the other 503 stores Apple operates worldwide, Apple Galleria Dallas is unique in its own way. Galleria Dallas is a monolithic indoor shopping mall set amid the sprawl of northern Dallas....

Pioneer was first to bring Apple CarPlay to aftermarket receivers over five years ago. The electronics company is shipping a major upgrade to its NEX in-dash receivers in 2020. Newly announced Pioneer receivers will best most of the standard CarPlay receivers included in new cars today. Pioneer has one model in particular that I’m anticipating the most: DMH-WT8600NEX. This is their new state-of-the-art 10.1-inch floating receiver with Wireless CarPlay. That means the above-average screen size is diagonally larger and extends beyond the car’s panel....

Today Pebble and Best Buy have finally made things official by announcing the partnership that will bring the most successful Kickstarter-backed device of all time to both Best Buy online and across all its U.S. brick and mortar locations. Update: Simon and Schuster have announced that the book will now be released on October 24th. The WSJ reports that Steve Jobs and biographer Walter Isaacson knew that he was dying weeks before the end. From Isaacson’s upcoming Essay in Time Magazine: Jobs indicated at that time that he knew he was going to die soon. The scene will appear at the end of the book. Perhaps ironically (because I read almost everything on an iPad now), this might be the last hard cover book I ever buy....

Animal rights group PETA wants Pixar’s upcoming Toy Story 4 to get rid of Bo Peep’s crook. Voiced by Annie Potts, the character was noticeably absent from Toy Story 3, but after 20 years of not being an active part of the Toy Story family, Bo Peep is set to return in Toy Story 4, complete with a new look. Long portrayed as the love interest of the Tom Hanks-voiced character Woody, Bo Peep’s presence in Toy Story has always been subtle and sweet....

Pinterest has purchased the popular read-it-later service Instapaper and plans to maintain the app and service for users. The purchase comes three years after Betaworks, the firm behind Digg, bought Instapaper from creator Marco Arment who currently developes the popular podcast player Overcast. The team behind Instapaper wrote about the acquisition in a blog post, promising that the service will not change: The blog post goes on to share that the developer tool Instaparser will go away following the deal, however, with support ending on November 1....

AT&T’s poor network is really killing the iPhone’s popularity and Pogue points this out. As someone frequently in NYC, the iPhone is useless as a phone here. I know many people who have an iPhone and still need to use a Verizon phone for phone calls. The Droid will be tempting to them. I’ve had similar experiences in SF. The Droid OS/apps are way less polished than the iPhone’s. While it isn’t getting a lot of airtime, I think this is akin to Windows vs....

Popular media server Plex is today announcing a new a DVR feature that enables recording of free over-the-air content using a digital antenna and digital tuner. You can bring your own digital antenna but will have to use an HDHomeRun digital tuner (around $90 and up) from the company Plex is teaming up with to support the feature (it also supports non-DRM CableCARD channels on the HDHomeRun PRIME network attached digital tuner)....

Pocket, the popular read-it-later bookmarking service, has been acquired by Firefox developer Mozilla, according to Recode. Pocket has client apps on the iPhone, iPad, and even the Mac including both a browser extension and dedicated reader app. The bookmarking service and apps are both available for free, although the service does monetize with a premium tier with advanced features for $4.99/month or $44.99/year. Free users of Pocket (which some use to strip ads from online publications) are served with in-app sponsored content....

PayPal has updated its iOS app with support for loyalty cards from a long list of selected retailers. The app allows you to select one of the supported companies from the list and scan the barcode on your loyalty or discount card, then saves the data in a digital wallet. The update puts PayPal in competition with Apple’s stock Passbook application, which also allows for storage of loyalty cards and other similar information....

Pinterest first started rolling out its new Lens feature back in February, and now the social network is expanding the visual discovery tool to identify recipes just by scanning foods.
