Paul Rudd hilariously explains why it doesn’t look like he has aged. The actor known for his comedic roles debuted in 1992 via NBC’s drama Sisters, but it was his 1995 gig as Josh Lucas in the Amy Heckerling coming-of-age classic, Clueless, opposite Alicia Silverstone’s Cher Horowitz, that catapulted him to mainstream popularity. Since then, he’s regularly appeared on the big screen with parts in Wet Hot American Summer, Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy, The 40-Year-Old-Virgin, I Love You, Man and Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues, as well as a stint in the last couple seasons of Friends.

The actor reached a brand new level of popularity, however, when he was cast in the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Scott Lang aka Ant-Man. He’s appeared in two films - Captain America: Civil War and Ant-Man & the Wasp - from the successful superhero franchise since 2015’s Ant-Man from Peyton Reed. Next month, he’s tipped to reprise the role for a fourth time in Joe and Anthony Russo’s Avengers: Endgame. At 49, Rudd doesn’t seem like he’s slowing down anytime soon, especially when he looks exactly like he did more than 20 years ago in Clueless, and now he reveals the secret to not aging.

Appearing at the Chicago Comic and Entertainment Expo (C2E2) for the Clueless reunion alongside Silverstone, Donald Faison, and Brecken Meyer, Rudd addressed the mystery behind his barely-changing looks (via Chicago Tribune). And true to his brand, he explained it with a bit of humor saying “I’m 80 years old on the inside. In here, pure darkness — and a little moisturizer.” He’s obviously joking, but his endorsement of the use of moisturizer actually has merit.

This is not the first time that Rudd was asked about his youthful appearance. Over the last few years, this topic has been raised quite regularly, and every single time, the actor would provide a hilarious answer that also downplays the fact that he has barely aged in the last two decades. It has also probably helped that he’s playing a superhero on the big screen which demands that he takes care of himself to look the part, especially with co-stars like Chris Hemsworth and Chris Evans.

As previously mentioned, Rudd will suit up as Ant-Man next month in Endgame as Earth’s Mightiest Heroes gear up for another round with Thanos (Josh Brolin). With the MCU making a name for themselves for their de-aging technology first done with Michael Douglas’ Hank Pym in the original Ant-Man and the latest with Samuel L. Jackson’s Nicky Fury and Clark Gregg’s Phil Coulson in Captain Marvel, at least Marvel Studios won’t have to spend so much time de-aging Rudd in case any film calls for it moving forward.
