Planetside 2’s large Escalation update was supposed to launch yesterday but has been delayed for another week. Planetside 2 is an MMO shooter that released all the way back in 2012 for the PC, and the title is known for its massive battles. The game even set the Guinness World Record for ‘Most Players Online in A Single FPS Battle.’

In December, Daybreak Games stated that a large update was coming to Planetside 2 soon. Originally the update was supposed to release sometime in January, but a specific date was never given. This was exciting news for fans, considering that Planetside Arena was recently canceled. Everything seemed to be going well with the new update, but a company restructuring put a small wrench in those plans. Daybreak Games split into three separate teams in January, with each team taking over a major MMO that the company has been working on. This will ultimately allow each team to better focus on their projects, but it may have slightly slowed down the process of making new content.

Rogue Planet Games (the team behind Planetside 2) has announced that the new update will be delayed until next Wednesday. The team stated that after reviewing reactions to the test server, it makes more sense to delay release and spend time polishing up the update first. They go on to say that the team is taking fan feedback under consideration and that they will also be doing some bug fixes to ensure that the update runs as smoothly as possible.

According to Polygon, this update is going to revamp the world of Planetside 2 considerably. One of the most interesting aspects is that it will incorporate Bastion Fleet Carriers. These massive interplanetary ships can essentially be used as a mobile base that can refuel and rearm before returning to battle.  Additionally, Polygon confirmed that rumors of Planetside 3 are unfounded, and Rogue Planet Games hasn’t even begun discussing such a project yet. According to the studio, “We’re not by any means ready to start talking about PlanetSide 3 in any sort of extensive detail. […] Our emphasis is really shoring up PlanetSide 2.” Rogue Planet Games does go on to state that they want to continue working on Planetside 2 so that they can eventually make a third entry in the series.

Planetside 2 has remained one of the most impressive MMO shooters ever released. While other titles may have more interesting combat, nothing can quite match the insanely massive battles that Planetside 2 brings to the table. In order to keep players around though, regular updates are a must for a game such as this. With an extra week of polishing, hopefully, the Escalation update for Planetside 2 can meet fans’ expectations.
