Four new colors are joining the ever-expanding lineup of PlayStation 4 DualShock 4 options. When the PlayStation 4 launched back in 2013, one of the biggest changes it made from previous console generations was its new controller. The PS3 controller looked visually identical to the PS2 controller, which looked identical to the DualShock revision to the original PlayStation gamepad. For the PS4, however, they totally redesigned the controller, adding a touchpad, light bar, and a nifty 3.5mm audio jack.

The DualShock 4 launched with only a single color, PlayStation’s signature black, but new colors have been steadily added over the years, including blue, red, silver, gold, and more exotic options like Alpine Green and the delightfully garish Berry Blue. All told, there are over 25 different versions of the DualShock 4, and four more are joining the fray this fall.

Starting in September, Sony will be adding four new colors to the DS4 lineup: Red Camouflage, Electric Purple, Titanium Blue, and Rose Gold. All four colors look gorgeous, especially with the lightly two-toned design of the DualShock 4 giving the front half of the controller a slightly different hue than the back.

The Rose Gold option is particularly striking, and Sony is doubling down on that distinct shade with a new version of their signature PlayStation Gold Wireless Headset. Oddly, despite the name, the $99 headset only comes in black or white options, making the new Rose Gold variation the first model of the Gold Wireless Headset that truly lives up to its name.

There generally aren’t many people who need more than one or two DualShock 4 controllers, but they certainly come in handy when it comes to four player local split-screen favorites like Rocket League, Borderlands, and Overcooked. Some hardcore gamers eschew the DS4 in favor of premium licensed controllers like the Scuf Vantage or the venerated Astro C40 TR. However, with its $200 retail price, the Astro is way too expensive for most players, who would rather spend that money on new games (or even the Switch Lite, which also costs $200). The new DS4 variants will retail for $64.99, making for a slightly more palatable impulse buy for players who are enamored with any of the new colors on offer.

The new DualShock 4 colors will release this September, while the Rose Gold Wireless Headset will come out later this fall. The PlayStation 4 recently passed 100 million units shipped. The PlayStation 5 is theoretically just around the corner, so it will be interesting to see how the PS4 coexists alongside the next-generation hardware, or if hardware like the DualShock 4 will be forward-compatible with the upcoming console.
