According to a now-deleted entry from a Sony job posting, the PlayStation 5 will be the world’s fastest console. A fair bit of information has already been released about the next generation of Sony’s long-running gaming console franchise, from news suggesting the PlayStation 5 will be incredibly energy efficient to detailed looks at the new PS5 controller, which features adaptive triggers and haptic feedback in order to provide a reportedly more immersive experience.
While players already know Bluepoint Games is working on a PS5 title and multiple developers have been in possession of PS5 dev kits for a number of months now, the actual amount of upcoming titles and exact console specifications is still unknown. Although rumors of a built-in PS5 camera, backwards compatibility, and a focus on streaming have been floating around, many developers seem more excited about the next-gen console’s SSD, which will allow for faster loading times and allow for much more information to be delivered on-screen.
According to a now-deleted entry on a Senior Cloud Engineering Manager job posting from Sony Interactive Entertainment PlayStation, the upcoming PS5 will be the world’s fastest console when it arrives next year. The description, which was preserved on Twitter and visible below, also states the “elite team” at Sony is “super excited” to launch the console, and requests anyone who applies for the job be “curious about emerging technologies.”
Since this job posting is directly tied to cloud computing, the mention of the PlayStation 5 in the job’s description only reinforces the idea of streaming being heavily tied to the future of video games. Recently, Sony reduced the price of PlayStation Now, their own game streaming service, dropping it to the same monthly price as Google’s game streaming platform, Google Stadia.
Sony has clearly been grooming the PlayStation Now to be a large part of the PS5’s future. While the company may internally call the upcoming consoles the fastest in the world, players aren’t so easily convinced, and many will need to see said console speed in action before consenting to such a bold statement. With a rumored PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale 2 and a planned PS5 VR headset, if nothing else Sony is definitely doing a good job of building hype around their upcoming console. Although new information will assuredly leak and be revealed before the planned Holiday 2020 release date, the PlayStation 5 remains a mysterious, supposedly-speedy aberration, at least for the time being.
