The free PlayStation Plus games coming December 2019 have been announced, and one of them is the fantastic Titanfall 2. Developed by Respawn Entertainment, the same company who brought players the team-based battle royale first-person shooter Apex: Legends, Titanfall 2 was considered by many critics to be an instant classic and a must-play shooter when it was originally released in October 2016, although the game’s initial sales did not reflect its outstanding quality thanks in part to a crowded release window which saw the title competing with other, more well-known shooters like Battefield 1 and Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare.
Respawn Entertainment is also responsible for the recently released Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, which has quickly become known as one of the best Star Wars games in recent years due to quality lightsaber fighting mechanics and a well-acted storyline, although some Fallen Order reviews feel the game leaned too much into tedious Uncharted-like climbing sections and lacked the ingenuity which permeated throughout Titanfall 2. Now, PlayStation Plus owners who want to experience Respawn’s previous title will have the chance to do so for free.
As reported by Eurogamer, an update to PlayStation’s official Polish website seems to confirm the next batch of free games coming to PlayStation Plus owners this month, and they include Titanfall 2 and Monster Energy Supercross - The Video Game. Not to be confused with the other game sponsored by Monster Energy, Death Stranding, Monster Energy Supercross is a BMX racing title which originally released in February 2018 and received mediocre reviews. However, the real gem here is Titanfall 2.
One of the biggest issues fans of the original Titanfall game had was the complete lack of a single player story mode, something which became one of the high points of Titanfall 2. The game’s single-player campaign was praised for its use of branching pathways and level-specific gameplay mechanics, such as one memorable level which saw players utilizing a time travel device to pop back and forth between two different versions of the same level in order to progress. Like the original, Titanfall 2 also featured a variety of different multiplayer modes for both PvP and PvE play.
Players who haven’t yet picked up November’s free PS Plus games have only a few days left to do so, as both Nioh and Outlast 2 will be leaving the store on December 3rd to make way for these new titles. Although Monster Energy Supercross - The Video Game might not be popular enough to really bring new people into the PlayStation Plus system, a stellar title like Titanfall 2 surely is, and any FPS fans who haven’t yet had the pleasure should definitely check it out when it comes to Plus next month.
