Marvel’s Iron Man VR now has an official release date of February 28, 2020, on PlayStation VR. The game was originally slated for release later this year.

While Iron Man has appeared in a number of video games, from Marvel: Ultimate Alliance to Tony Hawk’s Underground, none has really captured the feeling of being Iron Man the way that 2018’s Spider-Man on PS4 did for the beloved web-slinger. Iron Man will also appear in Marvel’s Avengers next year, and that may finally be the game that does him justice. The game appears to be coming together nicely, and the recent announcement that Kamala Khan, a.k.a., Ms. Marvel, will appear alongside the Avengers will bring some much-needed diversity to its cast of characters and introduce players to heroes they may be less familiar with.

Iron Man VR is taking a different path, sticking with one well-known hero and trying to represent him as faithfully as possible. A recent post by Iron Man VR lead writer Brendan Murphy on the PlayStation Blog shared a new trailer for the game along with the announcement of its February 28 release date. The trailer reveals the struggle between Iron Man and his antagonist in the game, Ghost, who previously appeared in 2018’s Ant-Man and the Wasp. In this iteration, she’s seeking revenge on Tony Stark for the damage caused by Stark Industries’ weapons of war. According to Murphy, Iron Man VR seeks to tell a compelling story about Tony Stark’s human struggles as much as it captures the high-flying excitement of wearing the Iron Man suit.

The PlayStation Blog also shared information about Iron Man VR’s two retail editions. In addition to a $39.99 standard edition, the game will also receive a digital deluxe edition for $49.99. The deluxe edition comes with additional in-game skins for the Iron Man suit, a copy of the game’s soundtrack, an Iron Man PS4 theme, and a pack of in-game currency that can be used to unlock some armor upgrades early. The game will also have a pre-order bonus which includes four more armor skins and another PS4 theme.

Iron Man VR has one distinct advantage over every other video game iteration of the iconic hero, and it’s that it can make players feel like they’re actually wearing the suit. The ability to look out from the mask and control the Iron Man suit just like Tony Stark might could make Marvel’s Iron Man VR the definitive video game interpretation of this Avenger. There’s still quite a while to go before players can see how it actually turns out, but there are also plenty of reasons to be excited for what looks like a more immersive, thoughtful take on Iron Man.
