Plex, the popular media service that offers apps on nearly every platform, has today revealed the latest iteration of its iOS application. With the latest update, the app has gained several new features.

For one, Plex for iOS now supports rich media browsing. This means that you can browse similar movies, get recommendations, and view movies with specific directors or actors all from within the Plex app itself.

The update also adds Rotten Tomatoes integration, making it super easy to view ratings and reviews for your movies. Plex for iOS now supports video chapters, allowing you to quickly jump to a certain scene in a movie. Plex can either read chapter information out of your media files or it can fetch the information from the ChapterDb website. Finally, the update includes Plex’s new Sync v2 technology, which it says greatly improves the stability and speed of Plex Sync.

The update is available now on the App Store. One change you’ll notice is that the app is now free to download, whereas it used to be $4.99. In the freemium version, the app can be used as a remote control and to fling contents of your camera roll to a Plex player. To upgrade to the full version, simply use the in-app purchase functionality or login via a Plex Pass account.
