In previous Pokémon games, grinding for Pokédollars wasn’t completely necessary. The content trainers could buy was pretty limited, and most people could get by running through the Elite Four until they earned the money the needed. However, the eighth installment of the main Pokémon series, Pokémon Sword & Shield requires trainers to spend a ludicrous amount of money if they want to purchase everything in the game.

With a Pokédex of 400 Pokémon, trainers need to spend tons of Pokédollars just to purchase Pokéballs, and if they want to buy every piece of clothing in the the game, it’ll cost more than 5 million Pokédollars for male characters and a whopping 8 million for female characters. On the competitive side, vitamins run about 10,000 Pokédollars each, and rare Technical Machines and Technical Records can cost up to 100,000 Pokédollars.

Game Freak even introduced Pokéjobs to Pokémon Sword & Shield, a new feature to combat the rising cost of living in the Galar Region. However, for many trainers the amount of time it takes to complete a Pokéjob isn’t worth the amount of money they get. So how can trainers earn enough money in a short amount of time? This guide will go over the two fastest ways to earn money in the game: using Gigantamax Meowth and scavenging the Wild Area.

How to Earn Money Fast with Gigantamax Meowth

Before trainers can earn money with Gigantamax Meowth there are a few requirements they must first complete.

  • Receive the special Gigantamax Meowth through Mystery Gift Complete the main storyline Obtain an Amulet Coin or Luck Incense Level up Meowth to about level 65 Meowth knows a Normal-Type damaging move

If trainers did not yet claim their Gigantamax Meowth, they should follow this guide before continuing: How to Claim Gigantamax Meowth, Eevee, and Pikachu. Once they receive their special Meowth, trainers will need to find an Amulet Coin or Luck Incense, which doubles any prize money that they receive from a battle. The Amulet Coin is located in the Motostoke Outskirts behind the sign by the Galar Mine No. 2 entrance. If trainers accidentally sold, traded, or tossed their Amulet Coin, they can also purchase a Luck Incense from the Incense Shop at the market in Hulbury for the cost of 11,000 Pokédollars.

Once an Amulet Coin or Luck Incense is obtained, equip it to Gigantamax Meowth and train it until it’s about level 65. An easy way to do this is to use Exp. Candy on it. Once Meowth is sufficiently trained, fly to the Wyndon Stadium. Enter the Championship Tournament with Meowth as the first Pokemon in the party and get ready for battle.

As soon as the battle starts, Gigantamax the Meowth and use its signature G-Max Gold Rush move, which will be an empowered version of any Normal-Type damaging move. It will also confuse enemy targets as well as earn extra money from the battle. Since Gigantamax Pokémon last for 3 turns, trainers will want to make their Meowth as strong as possible, so that it can use G-Max Gold Rush three times per battle. After winning, trainers should earn at least 90,000 Pokédollars. Repeat this until the tournament ends.

How to Earn Money Fast in the Wild Area

While this method is not as efficient as using Gigantamax Meowth, it requires a lot less setup. Trainers who have not completed the main storyline or claimed their Gigantamax Meowth can easily do this once they’ve explored the one of the newest Pokémon features: the Wild Area.

Throughout the Wild Area players will find sparkling spots that they can pick up. The items obtained this way usually go in the “Treasures” section of the Bag and can be sold for high prices. A Big Pearl will sell for 4,000 Pokédollars, a Pearl String will sell for 15,000 Pokédollars, and a Big Nugget will sell for 20,000 Pokédollars. The lower quality Treasures like Stardust and Pearls will still sell for about 1,000 Pokédollars. This method is easy because of how vast the Wild Area is. To find these items more often, trainers should look around rocks, in small patches of grass, next to trees, and along the shore. There are also fishers around the Wild Area that will sell these items for a small amount of Watts.
