Fighting Pokemon in Pokemon Go! is one of the most rewarding experiences of the game. In order to progress a player’s XP and level up, battling trainers, Team Rocket, and gym leaders will push a player’s Pokemon to be the best that they can be.
Battling in a Pokemon gym can be tricky. There are a variety of different fights and a lot of smaller details need to be taken into account in order for a player’s success. Here are some tips and tricks to maximize a player’s chances of winning and becoming the very best trainer possible.
Types of Pokemon Go! Battles
Pokemon Go! allows players to battle in a few, various ways. These battles will help players to practice their battle skills against one another or gym trainers. This gives players more variety over the types of battles and allows players to try different styles of battling.
In order to battle effectively, players need to understand how the mechanics of a Pokemon Go! battle works. One essential detail is that each Pokemon battle is a 3 vs 3 battle, where each player is allowed to choose 3 Pokemon to battle with. In order to win the battle, players must defeat all 3 of an opponent’s Pokemon. Each battle is timed to be 4 minutes long. If a battle cannot be finished in 4 minutes, the winner is determined based on who defeated the most Pokemon during the battle. Pokemon Battles are not allotted to all players, access to Pokemon battle starts once a player reaches level 10.
There are a few different battle types available to players. Trainer battles are one of the best ways for players to brush up on their Pokemon battling skills. This allows players to challenge their friends and find out who is the best Pokemon Trainer amongst them. Each trainer can be challenged three times per day, and each battle won gives players a reward. Gym Leaders also offer players a unique challenge. Facing off against Gym leaders will give players points towards their Ace Trainer metal and provide rewards for every battle won. The third style of Pokemon Battles is League battles. This lets players choose a league to battle in based on their Pokemon’s maximum CP. Each league will give players access to different strategies, and each league will get progressively more difficult.
Understanding Pokemon Types in Pokemon Go!
One of the most important parts of battling is understanding Pokemon type. From water to fire, psychic to ghost, Pokemon come in a variety of different types. This leaves players to be forced to understand how each type fights against the other. Each different Pokemon type will have a different effect on different Pokemon.
Participating in a Pokemon battle is similar to the game Rock, Paper, Scissors. In order to defeat an opponent, players need to use a Pokemon that is strong against their opponent. For example, if an opposing trainer uses a Blastoise, a player could select a weaker grass Pokemon to combat it. That’s really the beauty of Pokemon battles. A player does not necessarily need a stronger Pokemon than their opponent. Rather, a player just needs a Pokemon that exploits an opposing trainer’s weakness.
Types of Pokemon is not just limited to Pokemon themselves. There is also certain move sets that each Pokemon has, which limits the moves that a Pokemon can make. However, if a Pokemon is selected, a player gets the chance to see a Pokemon’s move sets. There are certain moves that some Pokemon have that are effective against opposing Pokemon that may usually be stronger.
Dodging Pokemon Go! Attacks
Another extremely useful skill is to learn how to effectively dodge the opposing trainer’s attacks. This will give players a chance to save that much needed HP that a Pokemon has. It is critical to know how to appropriately dodge an attack in order to keep the battle going.
The dodge mechanic in Pokemon Go! is a little tricky to use. The mechanic can be difficult to use and is poorly explained in the game. However, the overall idea is fairly easy to understand. Basically, players can swipe left or right and the Pokemon will jump in the corresponding direction. This means the Pokemon can move all around the arena and avoid a fair amount of attacks. One of the best ways to practice this mechanic is to fight friendly gyms and battles. This will give players the opportunity to practice the appropriate time and place to dodge. Using the dodge mechanic is about patience. Players should keep this strategy in mind: after dodging, attack once, and wait until the opposing Pokemon attacks again before trying to dodge.
Every Pokemon also has a special attack. These special moves are not something a player should squander. Be sure to plan out when the best time to use a special, this works to ensure maximum effect against an opposing Pokemon. Additionally, this special attack is not something that a player can dodge. So when an opposing trainer decides to use a Special attack, there is almost nothing a player can do to block it. Instead, players are offered 2 shields per battle. These shields work against major attacks from opposing Pokemon, but only twice per battle.
Teams Matter in Pokemon Go!
A player’s team can make all the difference in a battle. Although it seems to go without saying, it’s important to keep this in mind when entering any type of battle. A player’s team can make all the difference, even it if starts off as small.
One of the best things for players to do is to create a versatile team. Players will not know who their Pokemon will face off against. Each selection is kept secret, which increases the stakes of a Pokemon Battle. In order to ensure victory, players need to create a strong yet versatile team to ensure that each Pokemon won’t be outmatched based on type or CP level. This will ensure that a player’s Pokemon team is ready for any battle that is coming their way!
It’s also important for players to never feel bat about switching Pokemon that are on the field. Select Pokemon to counteract type strengths and weaknesses. This works to ensure that every moment of the battle counts. Additionally, it may be beneficial to switch out a Pokemon that is at half heather. This will save the Pokemon from fainting and could be what saves players from a stronger Pokemon that the opposing trainer has up their sleeves.
There are plenty of other ways for a player to increase their battle skills. However, these tips are some of the fastest to learn and easiest to use ideas to achieve Pokemon Battle Greatness.
